On this Poila Baisakh, I am proud to be a part of Sajja, a handmade boutique. Jewellery is such an easy way to add a little sparkle, creativity, and individuality to your outfit. It is something that one needs to carry but after trying out her collections I did not know when it became a part of Me. The founder of Sajja, Shreyasi, uses wood as the canvas and the skills of painting and art to create unique and experimental designs.

The parcel arrived with a very cute packaging and a warm hand-written letter.

The designs are such that it can also be styled with different attires. Usually, when you wear a necklace, you tend to reach for a pair of earrings or a bracelet that came with it so that all your jewelry items match. However, it’s a lot more fun and eye-catching to wear things that aren’t part of a set. For example, if you’re wearing a necklace with red stones in a flowery pattern, you could throw on a pair of simple gold chandelier earrings to go with it. Or you could combine a chain necklace with a geometric bracelet.

This is a technique you can try with your clothes as well, by mixing up the patterns and colors in unique ways. Just try to make sure that there is a theme as well as complementary colors running through your outfit so that the various elements don’t clash too much.

Travel In Style ✈️

Traveling is a part of everyone’s life nowadays. Who doesn’t love traveling and that too in style? It is pretty much in vogue to get clicked in your airport outfit and share on all the social media with fancy hashtags. Celebrities are often seen with airport pictures and tagged as ‘CHIC OUTFIT’ or ‘SLAYING THE AIRPORT LOOK’. As we all know Deepika Padukone is known to be the best in carrying the airport look.

But, have you ever wondered what exactly is The Airport Look?

Airport look simply means the look in which you travel. Quite popular among the celebrities. They pick a dress for award functions, a look for the beach, a look for marriage and similarly these days they are careful about what they wear when they travel too.What makes airport look interesting is that you should be comfortable (or at least look so) and at the same time look chic.

In this post, I’ll be writing about the do’s and the don’ts while selecting your outfit for the airport also showing the celebrity look that I recreated as my airport look. What you wear can make your trip a lot more comfortable. You should dress for comfort, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t look stylish.

Do’s

Bring a sweater:

  • It can get chilly in airports, and it can also get cool on a plane. The temperature may shift and vary. So bring something warm.
  • Even if you’re going to a warm climate, bringing along a zip-up sweatshirt or a simple cardigan sweater is a good idea. Some knits can look pretty stylish. Dark clothing is better because it will hide spills that could happen on the plane.
  • If you’re traveling in winter, you might want to bring a puffy down jacket if you have one because it won’t wrinkle if you need to place it into the overhead bin.
  • To make your life easier, start removing layered items, such as a sweatshirt before you get to the metal detector. A lightweight jacket could also work.

Wear comfortable bottoms:

  • You’ll want to be comfortable at the airport (no stiletto heels!), but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look good. Victoria Beckham has said the airport is her runway.
  • Lots of people end up in the airport in sweatpants or a track suit because they’re so comfortable. If that’s not for you, try a nice pair of leggings instead. Match them with long sweaters, hoodies, or long tops.
  • You can dress up a dressed down look by carrying a nice, statement handbag. Celebrities tend to wear sunglasses inside airports a lot and hats too. Go for comfort but with style.
  • Wearing jeans can be a good choice for an airport. However, wear worn jeans that don’t have too tight of a waistband and are worn in.
  • Celebrities walk through airports all the time, and they manage to look both comfortable and stylish.
  • Try relaxed trousers with a blazer.
  • Try jeans with flats and a simple black blouse.

Wear loose clothing:

  • Loose sweaters are extremely comfortable, especially if you pair them with jeans or leggings. Loose fitting dresses or pants are also a good choice for flying.
  • A loose sweater will keep you warm and will feel comfortable, including if you end up sitting in the airport or on the plane for hours.If you want to wear a skirt, go with a long maxi skirt and don’t choose anything too tight and short.
  • Wear an oversized pashmina scarf with the sweater (or just with a shirt) and it can almost double as a blanket on the plane. The other benefit of loose clothing is that it can help prevent blood clots. Although synthetic clothing can be flammable, it’s also less likely to wrinkle, which can make it a good choice for planes.
  • A graphic T-shirt is another option if you’re in a warm climate. It’s casual but still trendy so you will look stylish without sacrificing comfort.

Layer it up:

  • Often when you’re traveling, you will be shifting between different climates or temperatures. Maybe you’re going somewhere warmer or colder. Or maybe the temperature on the plane will shift. Come prepared.
  • If you layer clothes on your body, you won’t have to pack as much. You can remove one layer (say a sweater) and enjoy the tank top underneath once you land somewhere warmer (or vice versa). You should dress for the colder climate if you’re flying between locales with different temperatures.
  • Wearing a Pashmina, shawl, scarves, or wrap can be turned into makeshift pillows, allowing you to sleep more easily on the plane, if necessary.
  • Get prepared for the plane to be cold at times even if the climate outside is not. You will also want to wear fabrics that breathe and allow air to pass, such as silk or cotton. You will feel cleaner and fresher for longer.

Don’ts

The best way to ease through airport security is to dress for success. Certain garments and accessories could get you flagged for extra screening, slowing down your progression through the airport.

Want to roll through the security line like a pro?

Avoid wearing the following attire.

  • T-shirts with offensive sayings, though. It could cause you trouble in an airport.
  • Shoes that are difficult to remove.
  • Jewelry or piercings, or anything metal for that matter. If you set off the metal detector, you’re in for additional screening, or at least a little extra attention while other travelers stream past you. Everything from metal fasteners on clothes to body piercings to keys in your pocket could cause alarm in the security line. If you are wearing metal body piercings that cannot be removed, you may request a private screening in lieu of a patdown.
  • Belts. If your pants fall down the moment your belt comes off, don’t wear them to the airport. You can probably imagine why. Flyers must remove belts before walking through metal detectors, so choose a belt-free outfit, or at least be prepared to remove your belt if you want to wear one. Belts aren’t permitted through airport security because their metal clasps set off the metal detector. However, even if you are wearing a belt without a metal clasp, an agent might request that you remove it anyway. It’s standard procedure.
  • Coats and Jackets. It’s airport screening 101: Travelers must remove coats and jackets—this includes outerwear like hooded sweatshirts, vests, and such before going through the metal detector. It’s perfectly fine to sport a jacket in a chilly airport. Just remember to take your outerwear off and put it in a screening bin before proceeding through the checkpoint.
  • Loose fitted clothes. Loose clothes aren’t prohibited. But travelers sporting baggy apparel, such as droopy pants, flowy skirts, bulky sweatshirts, or even loose garments worn for religious purposes, may be subject to extra screening. According to the TSA, you might be selected for a pat-down inspection if your clothes are “large enough to hide prohibited items.”

Ugh. Uggghhhh. Burrp. If these are the three words you speak when you wake up, you’ve surely overdone the Winter partying. Now that Winter’s over, get down to getting fit for the Summer binges with the detox mantras and diet, and feel rejuvenated.

It is never late to start a detoxification routine.

I have also just started and my morning detox routine is very simple. Something every household has in their kitchen.

What I mean by Detox is The Feel Good with the Good Stuff Plan. 😍

Firstly what exactly is Detoxification?

There is a lot of misunderstanding about what a detox is and how to do it, so let me explain how Dr. Frank Lipman has understood detoxification.

Detoxification is what your body does naturally to neutralize, transform or get rid of unwanted materials or toxins. It is a primary function of the body, constantly working and interacting with all other functions of the body. So when we are talking about detoxification, it is about improving and optimizing the function of your body’s own detoxification systems. This is done by decreasing the number of toxins we put into our bodies while at the same time supporting our body’s detoxification and elimination systems with the nutrients it needs to function properly.

Most of us equate a detox with deprivation or worse. We think hunger, weird food, kale juice and colonics. We might feel better at the end, but is it really worth the pain and suffering??

As we move towards the Horrendous Summers it is necessary to take care of your health.

Some ways to ‘Detox’ or ‘Cleanse’ the system doesn’t require much of effort. There are far too many of the cleanses and detoxes to dig through, but I would be mentioning few tips to give you an idea how the cleanse works.

  1. Stay light. Dehydration and fatigue also require protein to replenish, hence a great source of protein is a lightly cooked dal (the yellow ones please). Stick to a light, bland khichdi as a meal. This combines protein with carbohydrates to give your body the required energy without overloading the digestive system. Add yogurt for soothing your stomach and enhancing absorption of amino acids in dal.
  2. Rehydrate. Drink large amounts of fluids (apart from water) like raw juices and green tea, herbal and regular but very weak tea without milk.
  3. Avoid strong teas, coffee, and carbonated drinks. These dehydrate the body and strip the Vitamin B1 from the body as well as encourage loss of important minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and sodium.
  4. Avoid non-vegetarian food. For 3-4 days at least. Non-veg food takes longer to digest and puts a load on the already overloaded digestive system.
  5. No alcohol. Junk the old saying of “treat a hangover with alcohol.” Don’t go near alcohol for three days at least. Stick to green tea instead.

Now comes the treat for all those who were already freaking out after reading the above tips.

The Three-Day Detox Diet

Since the weekend is already here, give this diet a try ( Even I would ) as it combines the goodness of fruits like papaya that are good for the liver, vegetables rich in nutrients required by the body, the soothing qualities of chamomile, as well as the role of herbs like mint and coriander in comforting the overloaded digestive system. The diet will make you run to the restroom, a required action to expel toxins.

Day 1: Getting rid of the overload via fluids only

Morning: Warm water with lime juice and honey. Followed up by one litre of warm water.

Breakfast: A large bowl of papaya

Mid-morning: One glass raw fruit and vegetable juice, made with one orange, one carrot, one turnip and a dash of rock salt. Do not strain. You could dilute it.

One hour after the juice: A cup of green tea ( add lemon and honey for some taste if you like)

Lunch: Clear vegetable soup

One hour after lunch: One orange and a bowl of papaya

Evening: Two cups of mint tea

Dinner (by 8 p.m.): Clear vegetable soup

One and a half hours after dinner: One cup chamomile tea

Day 2: Starting back on solids

Morning: Warm water with lime juice and honey. Followed up by one litre of warm water.

Breakfast: Curd and 3-4 spoons of poha

Mid-morning: One glass raw vegetable juice, made with one carrot, one tomato, one turnip and a dash of rock salt. Do not strain. You could dilute it.

One hour after the juice: A cup of green tea

Lunch: A small bowl of khichdi and curd

One hour after lunch: One orange and a bowl of papaya

Evening: Two cups of mint tea

Dinner (by 8 p.m.): A light, watery soup with fresh vegetables

One and a half hours after dinner: One cup chamomile tea

Day 3: Getting the system rejuvenated

Morning: Warm water with lime juice and honey. Followed up by one litre of warm water.

Breakfast: Small bowl of whole wheat cereal with curd

Mid-morning: One glass raw vegetable juice, made with one carrot, one tomato, one turnip and a dash of rock salt. Do not strain. You could dilute it.

One hour after the juice: A cup of green tea

Lunch: Clear vegetable soup, you could drink two bowls of this. Do not put cornflour to make it thick.

One hour after lunch: One large bowl of papaya

Evening: Two cups of coriander tea

Dinner (by 8 p.m.): A small bowl of khichdi (made fresh, do not use the previous day’s) and curd

One and a half hours after dinner: One cup chamomile tea.

Have you ever stayed in Bangalore for a while? Or maybe, used the water for cleansing your hair ? Then you would definitely know why I am writing this blog today.. Yes, the Pollution and the Hard Water.

The thought of washing my hair is and will always be a nightmare till the time I am living in this City, but then again we ladies do not have an option, do we?

So my everyday to do hairstyle was a messy top bun to spare myself from all the hair damage and loss.

Recently, I have been getting really nice compliments about my hair and also asking me what I do to maintain it. Being a working woman I do not get any time to maintain my hair or apply any masks. I have got no clue how and why I ended up getting so many compliments .. Haha! 😄 But, that made me more conscious that I really need to take care of the tress.

As we all know, the moisture-protein balance is one of the most important thing to keep in mind when you’re caring for natural hair. Alongside mechanical damage, when the balance between moisture and protein is out of sync, it’s one of the biggest causes of breakage. Now there are no hard and fast rules to get the moisture-protein balance right. It’s based on the condition of your hair, its structure and other individual characteristics.

Taking care of one’s hair and maintaining it throughout is a thought every woman contemplates every day. With everyone around giving you free and at times unasked for advice and tips, it is a safe option to rely on tried and tested methods. I would just share a few tips that had helped me:

  • A great tip I picked up is to use a moisturising conditioner immediately after a keratin treatment to regain the elasticity – I found that this works as a great treat.
  • Pick a shampoo and conditioner combo for fine, greasy, dry or colored hair, and stick to it! No matter what type of hair you have, there’s a specialist product made to care especially for you. Check the ingredients on your hair products. It’s not just your conditioner that contains protein. If you’re also adding leave-ins and moisturizing products and they contain proteins too, you may be overloading your hair. Remember guys, overloading your hair with proteins can lead to more breakage and damage.
  • Washing hair too often can actually dry hair out, or weigh it down with product. Know when you need to wash your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner/hair Mask at least once a week. Leave-in conditioners penetrate deep into your hair cuticles to heal them more completely. Try using a leave-in conditioner spray after you shower. The spray will make your hair more pliable and easier to de-tangle. Every so often, try using a deep conditioning treatment. You can use deep conditioning treatments like olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil or coconut oil.
  • Wet hair is more susceptible to damage than dry hair, it is more elastic and more likely to break. Since hair is most fragile when it’s wet, you shouldn’t rip a brush through it after washing. Instead, you should spray some de-tangler on it, and then use a wide-tooth comb to remove tangles and minimize breakage.
  • As hair is more fragile when wet, roughly towel drying hair can cause damage. Rubbing wet hair with a towel can rough up the cuticle (outer layer of the hair), causing more breakage and leading to frizzy or fluffy hair.
  • Since, I am not a huge fan of Hair Dryers I wouldn’t be recommending it to you ladies either.

As they say, “Gorgeous Hair is the best Revenge”, So Invest in your hair, It is the Crown you Never Take Off!

Pre and Post Rang Barse

As you guys saw in my last post it was all about Holi. The festival of colors, water balloons, thandai, water guns, vibrant and exuberant colors, is here. I am sure all of you must have planned out something unique for the colorful day.

But, did you plan- out something to save your skin from the harsh colors? If not, then don’t you worry. As I had promised I would tell you about how to take care of your skin/hair without putting your beauty in danger pre and post Holi Bash. 

  •  The very first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is to opt for natural colors. You may make herbal and skin-friendly colors at home by using turmeric, sandalwood, henna etc.
  • Avoid using toxic colors which contain harmful chemicals that may cause skin allergies or rashes in kids. These eco-friendly colors are easy to wash off and cause no damage to the skin. In addition, your motive of celebrating Holi in an eco-friendly way will also be accomplished.

PRE HOLI 

Skin:
  • Apply oil or cream all over the body before he goes out to play Holi. You may use coconut or olive oil to moisturize the skin or maybe Rub a thin layer of non- stick oil (preferably sunflower oil as it has less density) around the exposed surfaces such as the neck, face, hands, and legs at least half an hour before rushing off to play.
  • If required, you may apply sunscreen lotion too, to keep the skin moisturized and as a protection from sun rays.
  • Also, avoid clothing which absorbs water, you don’t want to be soaked for long in colors. Primarily because you want to avoid skin allergies.
Hair:

  • Oil your hair thoroughly the night before Holi. Repeat this in the morning as well. Tie your hair before leaving to play. You may also tie a scarf on your head, as an extra means of protection.
  • Keeping in mind all of your fashion sense and to rock that Holi looks you can have your head covered in a bandana and pair it with a pair of shades of your choice because protecting your eyes from colors is as important as protecting your hair and skin. Remove your contact lens before you head off to playing Holi.
  • Close your eyes when someone tries to splash colors. By doing these simple things you would be able to protect your pupils from any damage

(Preferably apply a layer of oil on the head or some sticky hair gel in order to repel the color.)

POST HOLI 

  • Make it a point to wash yourselves thoroughly 
  • You can use a nail polish remover to help remove stubborn color stains.
  • Avoid scrubbing your skin too hard as our skin gets sensitized when synthetic color makes contact with it. It will only aggravate the skin condition making it worse.
  • Avoid going out in the sun for the day after the shower.
  • Also, if you’re eyes get itchy and red, or if your skin were to develop a rash, visit a doctor as early as possible. Don’t hesitate to seek medical attention.

These skin and hair care tips for Holi are to make sure that the skin and hair remain protected from the harmful effects of the chemical based colors.

Lastly, PLEASE DO NOT PUT COLOR ON THE POOR ANIMALS (even if it is an organic color).

Whenever I am opening YouTube or any Social media site, the one thing that I am seeing nowadays are makeup related posts. There are multiple videos of different makeup tutorials and which products are the best for your particular skin tone or which makeup should be done based on the occasion or time of the day. Hello World,

Holi, one of the most unique and exciting festivals of India is knocking on the doors. But, how much do you know about Holi and how it is celebrated in India and around the world??

Well, skipping all the technical details about Holi and bore you guys, we can just say holi is ‘Fun’.

What can be a better way to celebrate the end of the cold weather than to smear each other with rich colors, matching nature? Well if you want to experience the vivid hues that the country has to offer, Holi is the perfect time to visit.

As Joshua Foer has said, “What makes things memorable is that they are meaningful, significant, colorful.”

For centuries it was celebrated with dry gulal and buckets of water, but unfortunately today it comes with splashes of synthetic pigments.

After effects of which not only causes discomfort to our skin, hair, eyes but also hazardous to our health. Perhaps why a little precaution goes a long way.

It was 8.30 pm on a Saturday night. Loud music. Disco Lights. And people are dancing like there is “No Limmits”.   They are already out of breath (read exhausted) but “DJ wale babu” is not letting them rest for a second.
