The thought of washing my hair is and will always be a nightmare till the time I am living in this City, but then again we ladies do not have an option, do we?
So my everyday to do hairstyle was a messy top bun to spare myself from all the hair damage and loss.
Recently, I have been getting really nice compliments about my hair and also asking me what I do to maintain it. Being a working woman I do not get any time to maintain my hair or apply any masks. I have got no clue how and why I ended up getting so many compliments .. Haha! 😄 But, that made me more conscious that I really need to take care of the tress.
As we all know, the moisture-protein balance is one of the most important thing to keep in mind when you’re caring for natural hair. Alongside mechanical damage, when the balance between moisture and protein is out of sync, it’s one of the biggest causes of breakage. Now there are no hard and fast rules to get the moisture-protein balance right. It’s based on the condition of your hair, its structure and other individual characteristics.
Taking care of one’s hair and maintaining it throughout is a thought every woman contemplates every day. With everyone around giving you free and at times unasked for advice and tips, it is a safe option to rely on tried and tested methods. I would just share a few tips that had helped me:
- A great tip I picked up is to use a moisturising conditioner immediately after a keratin treatment to regain the elasticity – I found that this works as a great treat.
- Pick a shampoo and conditioner combo for fine, greasy, dry or colored hair, and stick to it! No matter what type of hair you have, there’s a specialist product made to care especially for you. Check the ingredients on your hair products. It’s not just your conditioner that contains protein. If you’re also adding leave-ins and moisturizing products and they contain proteins too, you may be overloading your hair. Remember guys, overloading your hair with proteins can lead to more breakage and damage.
- Washing hair too often can actually dry hair out, or weigh it down with product. Know when you need to wash your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner/hair Mask at least once a week. Leave-in conditioners penetrate deep into your hair cuticles to heal them more completely. Try using a leave-in conditioner spray after you shower. The spray will make your hair more pliable and easier to de-tangle. Every so often, try using a deep conditioning treatment. You can use deep conditioning treatments like olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil or coconut oil.
- Wet hair is more susceptible to damage than dry hair, it is more elastic and more likely to break. Since hair is most fragile when it’s wet, you shouldn’t rip a brush through it after washing. Instead, you should spray some de-tangler on it, and then use a wide-tooth comb to remove tangles and minimize breakage.
- As hair is more fragile when wet, roughly towel drying hair can cause damage. Rubbing wet hair with a towel can rough up the cuticle (outer layer of the hair), causing more breakage and leading to frizzy or fluffy hair.
- Since, I am not a huge fan of Hair Dryers I wouldn’t be recommending it to you ladies either.
